When running test loops, the sensors can be bypassed by covering them with artist tape.
The sensors can be tripped by film that is very curled or wavy, which causes the light from the sensor to reflect back at the wrong angle. To avoid this problem, the sensors can be bypassed. Be prepared to manually stop the motor and disengage the frictions before the tail has run through the projector. This is critical, because if the frictions remain engaged the takeup will rapidly accelerate as soon the tail leaves the projector. Ideally, a second projectionist should monitor the projector if changeovers are being performed. If a second projectionist is not available, leader can be added to the tail to provide extra time to stop the projector after the changeover.
