Talk:Foil cues

In the first-run days, we considered it best practice to apply clear splicing tape to the film before adding the foil cue in order to make it more easily removable. I did this for dot cues and I've seen it done for the barcode sticker cues that were used by United Artists, but I guess if there were foil strip cues that were short enough it could have been done for them as well. Having never worked in a museum or gallery setting, I'm not sure whether this should be a recommended practice for that application, but if they're using single frame cues I think it should be. Removing dot cues (and other mid-frame cues) requires you to handle the picture area, and they often leave a small amount of adhesive around the edge of the circle. It's much cleaner to peel the clear tape off from the side. --JesseCrooks (talk) 14:08, 21 April 2020 (PDT)

Yes! I think this is a great suggestion, if only for the ease-of-removal aspect. Rfhall (talk) 14:12, 21 April 2020 (PDT)

Added the note about clear splicing tape. For Kelmar dot cues, another good trick is to apply them on the frame line for Flat formats to hide them during playback. I believe for 1.85 they fit entirely within the matting. If that's the style still in use, I think that's worth suggesting as well. --JesseCrooks (talk) 15:10, 21 April 2020 (PDT)
